Resolution of Interval Velocities from Stacking Velocity Anomalies
, by John Toldi
Stacking velocities contain useful information about laterally variable
interval velocities. In recent papers (Rocca and Toldi, 1982, Toldi, 1983),
we have discussed how this infortmation can be extracted through a linear
theory. In this paper, I discuss the limits on the resolution of interval
velocity anomalies as derived from stacking velocities. In other words,
exactly how much can one learn anout the lateral and vertical extent of a
region of anomalous interval velocity from the stacking velocities?
