This photo is from the very top of Independence Pass, looking to the west. Very sensible scientific theory gives a rational explanation of the existence of everything you see: the clouds, the colors, the little lake, the granite mountains. Yes, there are those who would even attempt to quantify my feelings at the moment I took this photo, in terms of imperceptible chemical reactions, or modern psychological theories. Yet if I choose to ignore them, does the significance of the moment defy their truth?
