Definition of Reproducibility

• rebuildable: a figure can be rebuilt from scratch in a short amount of time. Such figures are created using Fortran or C programs. The figure name has to have the extension .ps or .v.
• pseudo rebuildable: a figure can be rebuild, but it needs a large amount of time or some special hardware, etc. Figures created using super computers or special graphics are of this type. There should be a text file with the name FIGNAME.warning in the figure directory explaining why the figure is not rebuildable. The figure name has to have the extension .ps and .v
• non rebuildable: a figure cannot be recreated. An example is a picture drawn by hand or a digitized photo. The figure name has to have the extension .ps.save and .v.save . (This prevents them from getting destroyed in the clean up process, where all .ps and .v files are removed.)

The following three figures are of the above categories.

 

reprod Figure 1 This figure is rebuildable and its name is reprod.ps

This figure called reprod.ps was included in the L^ATEX document with the line:

pseudo Figure 2 This figure is pseudo rebuildable and its name is pseudo.ps. There exists also a file called pseudo.warning in the figure directory explaining why it is not immediately rebuildable.

This figure called pseudo.ps was included in the L^ATEX document with the line:

nonrep Figure 3 This figure is non-rebuildable and its name is nonrep.ps.save

This figure called nonrep.ps.save was included in the L^ATEX document with the line:
$\backslash$activesideplot{nonrep}{width=3.in}{.}{ This figure is non-rebuildable ...} . To each of those figures I could have attached some interaction, but I save this for the next section which deals exclusively with interactions.
