Prestack slant stack migration with PSPI produces good migration sections with both synthetic and field datasets. The slant events and diffractors are migrated to their original positions. This algorithm performs migration well even when there are lateral velocity variations present.
When, after the prestack slant stack migration, the seismic events are lined up
at the correct position in the CMP gathers, we can do AVO analysis more precisely
by using linear regression in the
domain, and no NMO correction is necessary. This prestack slant stack
migration collapses diffractions, and focuses bright spots, thus increasing
confidence in selecting drilling locations.
