Visit pleasant Hollister, California, unfortunately built directly on top of the creeping Calaveras fault, which makes it one of the world's premier tourist attractions (at least for earthquake seismologists!).
Here is a link to the ``It's Hayward's Fault'' page at CSU Hayward. This fault creeps, but not enough to release all the strain: it experienced a large (magnitude 6.8-7) earthquake in 1868, accompanied by about 3 feet of offset in the town of Hayward. The UC Berkeley football stadium straddles this fault!
