The caption says "Al Khobar from air". I grew up in this area and I can't think of any such prominent landmass surrounded by vegetation in Al Khobar. The shape however reminds me of that of Qarah mountain or Jabal Qarah as it is called in Arabic. It is located in Al-Hasa near Hufuf, some 120km south west of Al Khobar and was probably along the flight path that Cecil took to Rub Al Khali. I checked the place on Google Earth and I believe it matches that of the photo taken in 1978. The picture is taken from the north side facing south.
