Morgan-made topo for 5.5 Stair Trek on the east side of Moro Rock.

Where the stairs come close to the side (1-200 feet from the parking lot), go over the side and descend the steep slopes. The large, obvious tree is your main marker. The best starting point is the prominent 10-foot-tall rock marked as "Belay".

To avoid a ground fall, place protection in the 2" crack just above and to the left. From there, traverse 10 feet and climb around 10 feet to the first bolt. Run-out to the second bolt is around 20 feet, and the climbing is pure smearing on 75-degree rock.

After the second bolt, the fun part is done, and you reach a 30-degree+ slab. You will notice a small cliff band to your right, with solid cracks at the base. You can protect over here. You may even choose to set up an anchor here, though it is not the most comfortable belay stance. This location is probably the best for a top-rope.

Robert climbed to the top of the cliff band and anchored at a fairly flat spot, around 30 horizontal feet from the stairs. It is logical to gain the stairs and belay your follower, though from the stairs it is far too long for a top-rope. We did a 2-rope rappel from our belay station, then retrieved the gear by downclimbing from the stairs. Watch out for the tree on your way down!
