Mike Downie and I had a cool visit to Big Bend NP in January, 1995.
We drove straight through from Houston, leaving at 22:00, arriving
at the visitors center around 09:00. The weather was quite chilly;
probably in the teens at night, but warming up to the low 40's
during the day. The first day we hiked out into the desert and climbed
a random crag. The second day we climbed Emory Peak, the highest in the
park at 7845 feet. Beautiful hike and nice views near the summit.
