SEISMIC VELOCITIES FOR PARTIAL MELT SYSYTEMS

The velocities, v_p and v_s, are related to the bulk (K) and shear ($\mu$)moduli and the density ($\rho$) of the system by the well-known relations:

v_p = (K+43)/,   and

v_s = /.   These results are usually derived for elastic systems, but are also valid for poroelastic systems when the frequencies are small enough, and seismic frequencies are virtually always small enough.
