A scheme for trace interpolation of CMP gathers was proposed.
The interpolation was performed by finding the missing traces
that minimize the output of applying a high-pass, recursive dip filter
to the NMO-corrected gather.
For optimization, we used a conjugate-gradient algorithm and
found that it converged rapidly.
Compared to sinc interpolation, which is equivalent to applying a high-cut
filter in the frequency domain, the proposed method is superior for
interpolating both truncated traces and random missing traces.
