This pilot study indicates that prestack impedance inversion produces
P and S impedance information which correlates with the presence of
a known gas producing reservoir, at least in a qualitative sense.
There is clear potential for
mapping spatial changes in reservoir rock properties and pore-fluid
constituents from 3-D surface
seismic data, which may in turn help production geophysicists and
engineers better characterize and understand a given reservoir.
Obviously a more quantitative test would need to include detailed well
control, reservoir geology and reservoir production data, as is part
of my ongoing research.
