In this section we compare the two AVO techniques for determining the near sea-floor parameters by using a simple model of 120 m of water overlying a half-space. In this case, the direct wave and the primary reflection from the seafloor will be unaffected by reflections from subsurface structure. The acoustic/elastic properties of the model are given by the following table:
| layer | vp2 (m/s) | vs2 (m/s) | |
| water | 1500 | - | 1050 |
| sediment | 1693 | 437 | 1900 |
The synthetics were generated with a maximum frequency of 30 Hz and
a water depth of 120 m. The offset sampling was 25 m, the zero-offset was
12.5 m and the time sampling was 2 ms.
The maximum angle of incidence
was 84
and the critical angle was 62
.
