Speculations on contouring sparse data: Gaussian curvature

ABSTRACT

We speculate about regularizing (interpolating) sparse data. We speculate that L₁ regularization would be desirable. An example convinces us it would not. Changing direction we learn that flexed paper has zero Gaussian curvature. Unfortunately, Gaussian curvature is a nonlinear function of the altitude.
